Uruguay, a small but vibrant country in South America, is geographically located over the Atlantic Coast on the east, the River Plate on the south, Argentina on the west separated by the River Uruguay, and Brazil to the north and east. It is renowned for its political and social stability, beautiful landscapes and beaches and a rich European culture. The total population is a bit over 3 million inhabitants and half of the population lives in Montevideo, the capital city. The economy and exports rely mostly on agricultural products.
How to get to Uruguay
The international airport in Montevideo (MVD) is called Carrasco Airport. Most international airlines arrive daily into Montevideo Airport from Europe, the United States or Latin America, such as Air Europa, Iberia, American, LATAM, COPA (with 3 flights a day from Panama), Jetsmart, Azul, Aerolíneas Argentinas, Gol, and other flights with connections through Sao Paulo or Buenos Aires such as Delta, Air France, Lufthansa, Qatar, Emirates and others.
Transfers from/to Montevideo Airport
- Taxi: You can take a taxi from Carrasco International Airport. Taxis are available at the terminal and offer fixed rates to downtown Montevideo and Ciudad Vieja (Old City) where the Radisson hotel is located.
- Transfer Private Service: Private and pre-arranged transfer services can be booked through the local Secretariat to take you directly to your destination. This service will be assisted and in shared basis in cars or vans under a pre-booked and pre-paid basis (please contact at hotel-tours@congresos-rohr.com). Local Transportation
- Public Transportation: In Montevideo and other major cities, you can use buses, taxis or Uber. Public transport is efficient and economical. In Montevideo, transportation is paid with prepaid cards called "STM" (Sistema de Transporte Metropolitano) or cash. Uber through the international app.
- Car Rentals: Several car rental agencies are available in major cities and airports. Make sure to have a valid driver's license and a credit card for the deposit.
- Taxis: Taxis are available in all cities and can be ordered via mobile apps, at your hotel or on the street. They charge by the meter. Uber is widely available through the app.
Climate
Uruguay has a temperate climate, with 4 definite seasons, warm summers from December till the end of March and mild winters from May to September. In April at the time of the Council session, the weather should be mild being Autumn between 15℃ and 25℃ most days though it is suggested to bring warm mid-season clothes but also a jacket for rain or windy days.
Currency
The official currency is the Uruguayan peso ($). You can exchange money at banks, exchange houses, or ATMs. One US$ is worth approx. $ 40 (Uruguayan pesos).
